Can Vegan Milk (Plant Milk) replace Cow Milk?
Vegetarian culture is becoming more and more popular, and consumers' demand for Vegan Milk (or so-called Plant Milk) made from plant raw material is increasing. Even some coffee shops are also responding to customer request by using Vegan Milk instead of Cow Milk to prepare coffee or beverage. Can Vegan Milk replace Cow Milk?

In the Choice Magazine Issue #521 published at March 2020, Consumer Council has compared the nutritional content of low-fat Milk with common Vegan Milks such as soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk and rice milk.

Animal protein is "Complete Protein" which contains essential amino acids required by human body and cannot be produced in the body. Cow Milk is one of the sources of animal protein. However, Vegetable protein is "Incomplete Protein". As its content of essential amino acids is not so comprehensive, different types of Vegan Milk are often lacking of at least one or more essential amino acids.

Cow Milk is rich in Vitamin B12 and the main source of calcium. Drinking 2 servings of Cow Milk is equivalent to 75% calcium and >90% Vitamin B12 of the recommended daily intake by adults. So Vegans or Vegetarians drinking Vegan Milk without fortified nutrients or additional Vitamin / calcium may cause health problem.
